Ladybug Dance for Children
Everyone loves ladybugs
Children love to hold them, to see them crawl around, and to watch them fly away. At the Dance Hub, children enjoy learning about the life cycle of the ladybug and re-enacting it through dance. All the while, they are learning about science and their bodies and expanding their understanding of themselves and their world. This is the essence of Ladybug Dance at The Dance Hub. Our classes draw upon stories, fairytales, and poetry to teach children about dance. Further, our goal is to provide a discovery process where ballet, self-expression, and social learning are seamlessly integrated.
Ladybug Classes are taught in a fun and supportive environment. First, a ballet warm-up safely prepares the children for movement while also stimulating the child’s imagination. Children then learn basic coordination and develop flexibility, posture, and rhythmic awareness, building self-confidence as their skill level develops. Through our classes, kids will also learn to take direction and develop their social skills as they are guided to work constructively with others. In addition to ballet fundamentals, our program emphasizes performance skills and choreography. Whether learning about nature and animals or dancing out familiar fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood and Puss In Boots, we guarantee a fun and educational experience for your child!
Children’s classes at Ladybug are offered on a drop-in basis rather than by term. You only pay for classes that your child attends. You may by single classes or a series of 5 or 10 classes at a discounted rate. Children that attend a sufficient number of classes will be able to participate in periodic studio showings.
The Dance Hub is committed to providing a safe, instructive, and joyful dance experience for all children.
Mommy & Me (for Daddies or Caregivers, too) • Ages 2-3
Mommy and Me will introduce your child to creative movement and ballet in a fun and supportive environment. We begin with playful seated stretches, followed by dancing with tambourines and scarves to ballet classics and Disney favorites. This class encourages freedom of movement and self-expression, as well as coordination, and rhythmic awareness. In your child’s first dance class she/he will also develop greater socialization skills and gain confidence as you and your child experience the joy of dancing together.
Pre-Ballet • Ages 3-5
This class emphasizes creative movement and self-expression together with developmentally appropriate ballet strengthening and fundamentals. In a nurturing environment, children will learn the first exercises of the ballet barre, such as first and second position, demi plié, and tendu. They will also enjoy jumping, galloping, skipping, and leaping along with other locomotor movements. Students will develop performance skills as they help create dances based on fairy tales and nature.
Ballet I • Ages 6-8; 5 with staff approval
Children will strengthen their ballet fundamentals including modified barre work, center floor exercises, and learn class etiquette and protocols. As in Pre-Ballet, there is emphasis on creative movement and self-expression. Performance skills are cultivated as children help create, learn, practice, and eventually perform their dances. Any child who wishes to participate will be showcased in these dances.
Ballet II • Ages 9-11
At these ages, students are physically ready to start more focused training. Barre work is extended to build strength and flexibility, develop turnout, and learn the correct use of the feet and arms. Center work includes exploration of the positions of the body, port de bras, arabesque, and developing vocabulary and learning steps like the Polka and Waltz. Expressivity and artistry through movement is taught as an integral part of the work. Creative explorations are incorporated in every class.

What should my child wear in class?
For Mommy and Me, Pre-Ballet, and Ballet I/IA: Kids should wear clothes they are happy moving in. Dancewear, tee shirts, shorts, and leggings are all good options. Ballet slippers can be worn but are not required. Long hair should be pulled back.
For Ballet II: Girls should wear pink or neutral ballet slippers, a leotard and flesh-colored or pink tights; boys should wear black ballet slippers, a white tee shirt, and black shorts or tights. Long hair should be secured off your child’s neck.
Where can I purchase dance clothes for my child?
Do I have to sign up for a full semester?
Ladybug classes are not sold by the term. Pay only for the classes your child attends. You can buy blocks of 5 or 10 classes for a discount. Children who participate in a sufficient number of classes in the term will be able to participate in the end of term showing.
