End of Year Appeal 2020

Dear Dance Hub Friends Near and Far,

AD&M has been actively engaged with the community since the shutdown began. From the beginning, we have been extremely fortunate to have the generous support of our landlord, People’s Self Help Housing, as well as local funding organizations, and many individuals! Today, I ask for your critical support to help us to “get to the other side” of the pandemic.

Since March, The Dance Hub has continued to be a vibrant virtual and realtime space:

  • Our dedicated students attend fifteen classes per week and keep the virtual studio humming!
  • Dance Hub Instructor and former Cunningham dancer, Victoria Finlayson created a mesmerizing dance film, “Out There” in collaboration with her students. Starting on Giving Tuesday, you can see the film, along with an interview with Victoria, here.
  • On Thanksgiving day, we debuted a project called, Why I’m Still Dancing: A Virtual Collage. This inspiring piece consisting of photos and personal statements from many of our students can be seen here. On the same day SB Independent also shared it in their paper and online. You can see that here.
  • American modern dance choreographer, Molissa Fenley was awarded a Dance Hub rent subsidy grant to relearn her iconic solo, State of Darkness. The breathtaking solo performances were produced and live-streamed by The Joyce Theater in October and early November.
